News   Bock and Harnick in Spotlight for Melting Pot Theater Benefit April 21; Stars Sing from Shows
Composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick, the musical theatre craftsmen who penned the scores of Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me and Fiorello!, will be honored by the Melting Pot Theater Company at an April 21 benefit for the troupe.

The Drama Desk Award-winning Manhattan not-for-profit will present its Third Annual Pioneer Award to Bock and Harnick at a show called Tonight at Eight, a title borrowed from She Loves Me.

The evening is a celebration of the musicals of Bock & Harnick. Harold Prince, Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman are honorary chairs. Fiddler on the Roof, Bock & Harnick's biggest hit, is expected to make a Broadway comeback in late 2003 starring Alfred Molina as Tevye.

The evening will take place at the Supper Club, 240 W. 47th St. between Broadway and Eighth Avenue, with cocktails beginning at 6:30 PM, dinner at 7:30 PM and concert and award presentation at 8:30 (despite the evening's title).

The concert includes songs from the team's Fiorello!, Tenderloin, She Loves Me, Fiddler on the Roof, The Apple Tree and The Rothschilds.

The starry cast of Broadway performers and presenters includes F. Murray Abraham, Andre De Shields, Boyd Gaines, John Kander, Judy Kuhn, Adriane Lenox, Julia Murney, Kerry O'Malley, Emily Skinner and more. Melting Pot Theater Company's artistic director is Larry Hirschhorn and managing director is Sean Patrick Flahaven. The Off-Broadway troupe has produced 14 critically acclaimed off-Broadway shows, including Cobb, Woody Guthrie's American Song, The Devil's Music:  The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith, Miss Evers' Boys, and this season's Cookin' at the Cookery:  The Music and Times of Alberta Hunter.

Tickets are $250 and $500 each and can be reserved by calling (212) 330-7211.

Founded in 1996, the not-for-profit Melting Pot Theatre Company "creates, develops, and produces New York premieres of exceptional theatre works that explore the themes, peoples, and events that shape the unique American experience."
