News Bogosian, Gregory, Mailer Featured in Aug. 12 Panel on "New McCarthyism" The Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater, which previously rattled the Bush administration's cage by staging the satiric Gip Hoppe play A New War, will present an Aug. 12 panel addressing the current U.S. government's approach to foreign policy, the fight against terrorism and patriotism. It is titled "Dissent = Democracy: A Teach-In on the 'New McCarthyism'"

Sitting on the panel will be playwright Hoppe, the founder of WHAT; playwright and performer Eric Bogosian; director and actor André Gregory; radical historian (and father of WHAT artistic director Jeff Zinn) Howard Zinn; novelist Norman Mailer; Sebastian Junger; and Marge Piercy. The event will take place at 7:30 PM at the Wellfleet Congregational Church, Main Street, Wellfleet, MA. All proceeds benefit Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater.

"Free speech is under attack in this country - in subtle and not so subtle ways," said Jeff Zinn in a statement. "There are examples everything: canceled appearances of Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins following the Oscar telecast; the Screen Actors Guild receiving hate mail about Martin Sheen and others, website postings suggesting that well-known individuals who express 'unacceptable' views should be punished by losing their right to work. Even a hint of the blacklist must never again be tolerated in this nation." Tickets are $27 or two for $50, and are available by calling (508) 349-6835.
