Actor-playwright Eric Bogosian will star in the premiere of his own play, Red Angel, at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, July 24-Aug. 4.

Obviously, Bogosian is no stranger to performing his own material. But prior to this, he's exclusively played in his one-man performance pieces such as Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll and Drinking in America, as well as the play Talk Radio. Since he's come to concentrate of more traditional playwriting efforts, he's been content to let other actors do the performing while he stays behind the scenes, shouldering the scripting duties.

Bogosian will play David in The Red Angel. This drama appears to venture into Oleanna territory with its look at a university professor's "psycho-sexual" standoff with an alluring student.

Also in the cast are Dagmara Dominczyk, Sarah Hudnut and Nathan Corddry. Neil Pepe of New York's Atlantic Theatre Company, directs.

Bogosian recently had another world premiere, when Humpty Dumpty debuted at the McCarter Theatre Company. Another teacher-student relationship is explored in Without Walls, something new by Alfred Uhry (The Last Night of Ballyhoo), due to play WTF after the Bogosian work. The instructor is Morocco Hempfill, an African-American drama teacher. The pupil is Anton, who has been newly transferred to Hemphill's school. Uhry told the New York Times that the piece was inspired by his experiences as an English and drama teacher on the Upper West Side in the 1970s. Christopher Ashley directs.
