Classic Arts News Boston Symphony Premieres Kaija Saariaho's Notes on Light This Week Conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste will lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of Kaija Saariaho's Notes on Light for cello and orchestra on Thursday evening (Feb. 22). Anssi Karttunen is the soloist.
Notes on Light is a BSO 125th anniversary commission, and the second of four world premieres presented by the orchestra this season.

For those who want a sneak peek ahead of the premiere, there will be an open rehearsal on tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. at Symphony Hall.

Saariaho's five-movement work — which receives its European premiere in March from the Finnish Radio Symphony — will have four full concert performances from February 22-27. The program also includes Debussy's Printemps and Sibelius's Lemmink‹inen Suite. Information and tickets are available at www.bso.org.
