News Brad Oscar, Maulik Pancholy, Polly Lee Will Create A Real Boy in NYC Reading Dec. 7 Stephen Kaplan's new play, A Real Boy, about an unusual teacher-student relationship, will get a private reading in New York City on Dec. 7. Brad Oscar (The Addams Family, The Producers), Maulik Pancholy ("30 Rock," "Weeds") and Polly Lee (Yale Rep's Marie Antoinette) are among cast members.

The work is billed this way: "Terry Hill [played by Lee] loves her kindergarten students. When she fears that one of them is not being raised appropriately, she decides to take matters in her own hands and keep the child in her classroom to raise as her own. Things are complicated by the fact that this child's parents happen to be puppets — and Terry fears the boy's emerging strings will keep him from becoming a real boy."

Kaplan's most recent plays include Exquisite Potential (New Jersey Playwrights Contest Finalist and Winner of the Across The Generations Jewish Play Competition), When The Mayonnaise Goes Bad (with Will Nolan) and The Book of Daniel (New American Comedy Festival). He is a five-time winner of the Blank Theater Company's Young Playwrights Festival and recipient of Bank of America's Young Artist Award. Other plays include Tim Eless, Private Eye (starring Noah Wyle at the Blank Theatre Co.), And Jack Came Tumbling After (Old Globe, Ensemble Studio Theatre, HERE and Lincoln Center Theatre's American Living Room Series), Self Addressed (Edinburgh Festival and Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles), Dreams of Reason (Northwestern University) and others.

The reading of A Real Boy — which also features AJ Heekin as the boy, Margaret O'Connor, Robert Michael Johnson, Monica Wyche and Will Nolan — is part of the Dramatists Guild Friday Night Footlights series.

Seating for the 6:30 PM reading at the Dramatists Guild's Frederick Loewe Room in midtown is limited. Reserve at [email protected].
