Roundabout Theatre's 1776 cast recording, starring Brent Spiner, will be released by TVT Records Dec. 16.
The Sherman Edward/Peter Stone musical was recorded Nov. 11 and 13 at Edison Studios in New York. Robert Sher, whose credits include Rags and Roundabout's She Loves Me, is producing the cast recording.
Unlike the original Broadway cast album, the TVT recording will include the song "Compliments" (sung by Abigail Adams) as well as all of the reprises in the score.
Independent label TVT has released an eclectic slate of recordings ranging from alternative rock acts (Buck-O-Nine, dayinthelife, Royal Fingerbowl) to soundtracks (Big Night, Scream, Fargo and the TV's Greatest Hits compilations).
Directed by Scott Ellis and starring Brent Spiner, Pat Hingle, Michael Cumpsty and Gregg Edelman, the musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence opened Aug. 14 at the Roundabout Theatre for a limited run through Nov. 16. After protracted negotiations, the show announced it would make the commercial jump to the Gershwin Theatre beginning Dec. 3.
