The official Brian Stokes Mitchell website is reporting that the Tony Award-winning star of Kiss Me, Kate will recreate the role of Fred/Petruchio in a fall 2001 London staging of the Cole Porter classic.

To date, there has been no official word of a London remount of the hit Broadway revival. The show's Broadway producers are Roger Berlind and Roger Horchow.

Mitchell leaves the Broadway company Jan. 28, 2001, and "plans to finish his album, do some concert work and rest up before starring in Kate in London in September of 2001," according to the website, www.brianstokes.com.

Mitchell will be out of the Broadway company for a vacation, Dec. 22-Jan. 4, 2001, the website also reported.

Burke Moses (the original Gaston in Broadway's Beauty and the Beast) replaces Mitchell as the pompous actor directed Fred Graham, who is staging a musical version of The Taming of the Shrew. The revival, directed by Michael Blakemore and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall, celebrated its first anniversary at the Martin Beck Theatre Nov. 18.
