Bright Star co-creator Edie Brickell is at work on a musical, entitled 38 Minutes, about the 2018 Hawaii missile false alarm crisis. The Tony nominee was in the island state when residents were sent an emergency notification to seek shelter immediately and prepare for impact, only to find out more than 30 minutes later that the alert was sent accidentally.
Variety reports Tony nominee Carmen Cusack, who led Bright Star (Steve Martin wrote the book and co-wrote the music with Brickell) in the 2016 Broadway production, will star as Brickell in an upcoming workshop in Los Angeles, California. A reading took place in 2019.
Josh Rhodes will direct with music supervision by Rob Berman and Lisa Dozier as executive producer.
