Case, who was part of Playbill.com's LGBT Pride week feature "Stories of Pride" in June, met Connors three years ago through Hair cast member Andrew Kober and his wife. Connors proposed to Case with the help of some special friends on Oct. 18.

Case shared the romantic story with Playbill.com:

"Ashley took me out to dinner and our friends had our dog, Bodhi, over to hang with their dog, Scout. They said to pop by after for a drink. We got to their apartment 'for a drink' and opened the door to Bodhi in a tuxedo! I noticed our friends, Pip and Fiona, were not there at all. I was so confused! There were candles and flowers and we went out on their balcony to see if they were there. There was champagne and more candles, and as I got to the other side of the balcony that's when I saw it! Candles below had spelled out 'Marry Me?' in the empty lot in front of the water and the NYC skyline. It was a beautiful and personal moment we will never forget and I was BEYOND shocked! She asked me to marry her and I said, 'Of course, I will!'"

The couple returned to their own apartment where family members and close friends, some of whom drove from Boston to share in the surprise, were awaiting them for a toast. Case, Connors and company later headed to a local bar, where 40 of their friends were waiting to continue the evening's celebration.

Case and Connors plan to wed next fall.
