News Broadway Bets: Poker Tournament at Sardi's Is Latest BC/EFA Fundraiser Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has come up with a lot of innovative and unusual ways to raise money in the last half century, from "Broadway Bears" (an auction of teddy bears dressed up like Broadway stars) to "Broadway Bares" (a burlesque revue with fit Broadway dancers). Now comes their latest, "Broadway Bets," a May 18 poker tournament at Sardi's.

Broadway celebrities TBA are scheduled to take part in the event, which is open to all, with proceeds going to the fight against AIDS. The game will be Texas hold-'em poker.

Co-chairs Paul Libin, executive vice president of Jujamcyn Theaters and BC/EFA Board of Trustees president, and Robert E. Wankel, president and co-CEO of The Shubert Organization and longtime BC/EFA trustee, announced today the first collection of “Full House” sponsors, who have purchased full tables for eight players: Ambassador Theatre Group, Foxwoods Resort Casino, Jujamcyn Theaters, On the Town, The Road Company, The Shubert Organization and SpotCo.

“Two Pair” sponsors, purchasing spots for four players, include The Araca Group, Darren Deverna of Production Resource Group, Serino/Coyne and Sweet Hospitality Group.

You do not have to be an employee of any of these companies to play--or to win.

Sardi's restaurant is located at 234 West 44th Street near Times Square. Doors open at 6:30 PM; tournament play begins at 7:30 PM. Player tickets cost $500 and up, and are available now at Broadwaycares.org. For those who want to attend but not play, "Broadway Bets" guest passes will be available for purchase at $150 to observe the poker table action. Guests also will be able to play other casino games with an opportunity to win prizes.
