The creative team for the spring 2013 run was announced on Sept. 24 by the Tony Award-winning Denver Center Theatre Company, which is producing the Jane Austen-inspired show by lyricist-librettist Jeffrey Haddow and composer Neal Hampton.

Sense & Sensibility The Musical was tested in a reading at the 2012 Colorado New Play Summit. Its full staging will be April 5-May 26, 2013, in The Stage Theatre in the Denver Center for the Performing Art.

Here's how the Tony-honored DCTC bills the new musical: "In this grand musical adaptation of Jane Austen's enthralling novel, audiences are drawn into the tempestuous world of the Dashwood sisters. Opposites in temperament, but equally determined to find love and happiness in spite of their desperate financial circumstances, sisters Elinor and Marianne struggle with betrayal, soaring emotions, dashed hopes and their own conflicting notions of ideal love. But while one follows her heart and the other her head, each triumphs romantically by remaining true to who they are." Casting will begin shortly in New York.

Haddow (book/lyrics) is a winner of the BMI Harrington Award for Creative Achievement. His musical revue Scrambled Feet ran two years Off-Broadway, was produced as a Showtime TV special starring Madeline Kahn, and is published by Samuel French. His play Chekhov in Yalta had its world premiere at the Mark Taper Forum. It won a Los Angeles Drama Critics Distinguished Playwriting Award, and was produced as a TV special starring Tom Courtenay. Other produced plays include Ducks (Musical Theatre Works), Thin Ice (WPA Theatre), Scully & Royce (Detroit Repertory Company) and The Drunken Boat (Circle Repertory Company).

Hampton (music) has composed works for stage that include The Chimes (book/music/lyrics) which received a staged reading at New Opera and Musical Theatre Initiative; incidental music for Lanford Wilson's Book of Days; and additional music and lyrics for The Little Matchgirl at Gloucester Stage.

Sense & Sensibility The Musical is presented by special arrangement with Betty Ann Besch Solinger and Alice Chebba Walsh.
