As is tradition, the lights of all Broadway marquees will dim for one minute at 8 PM. Sardi — namesake of the world-famous theatre district restaurant — died Jan. 4. "Broadway is deeply saddened by the loss of Vincent Sardi, this iconic and beloved man of the theatre," said League of American Theatres and Producers executive director Charlotte St. Martin. "Vincent was a true New Yorker. For many decades Sardi's has been one of Broadway's favorite eateries, the site of many opening night parties and other community celebrations. Our city won't shine as brightly without him."
Sardi's Restaurant on West 44th Street is adorned with the numerous caricatures of Broadway notables from the past and present.
