Co-conceived and directed by Joey Murray (Bashert, Love Letter, The Hole), the Broadway Dolls' Tour de Fierce was presented as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival's 2011 programming. The concert features female triple-threat performers from various Broadway productions. Broadway Dolls member Hollie Howard founded the group.
Other stops on the mini-tour include Orlando, FL; Charlotte, NC; and a 10-city engagement in China, which will conclude in Shanghai. More dates will be announced.
The Broadway Dolls feature Howard (Hairspray, Mamma Mia!), Tracee Beazer (Motown, Memphis), Krystal Joy Brown (Leap of Faith, Hair), Nicolette Hart (Million Dollar Quartet, Legally Blonde), Heather Parcells (Wonderland, A Chorus Line) and Gabrielle Ruiz (In The Heights, A Chorus Line).
According to the creators, "The 95-minute song and dance production is a musical celebration of pop, broadway, rock n' roll, and dance. Audiences can expect to hear nearly 50 classic Broadway showtunes, many of which were performed by the cast in roles they played on Broadway, and have been re-imagined for a contemporary audience. In addition to Broadway, the Dolls take on rock n' roll classics, re-invented arrangements of Britney Spears' 'Toxic,' U2's 'I Still Haven't Found What Iʼ'm Looking For,' Prince's 'Baby, I'm a Star,' and a set of 1960's girl group favorites, such as 'Heatwave' and 'Leader of the Pack.'"
The Broadway Dolls are choreographed by Jordan Fife Hunt (A Chorus Line) and Daniella Cavileri ("So You Think You Can Dance"). David Kreppel is the musical director and supervisor for the concert tour. Visit thebroadwaydolls.com.
