Producer Jeff Rowland said in a statement, "It is unfortunate that we must now cancel what promised to be a very rewarding Broadway engagement for Joaquín and for the entire Mi Soledad company. But due to circumstances beyond our control, it is most important that Joaquín be with his family right now, and our thoughts are with them during this time. After the holidays, we will begin looking at options for bringing Mi Soledad to New York in 2007.” Mi Soledad, featuring acclaimed flamenco dancer Cortés, was scheduled to play the Palace Dec. 11-22. The engagement was to be presented by Gypsy Productions Inc., SuperFrank, Jeff Rowland and Foye Johnson.

Mi Soledad (My Solitude) is billed as "a unique 90-minute fusion of flamenco dance, music and song, in which Cortés takes audiences on an intimate and provocative journey through one man’s private emotions." Music and lyrics in the show are by José Carbonell, Antonio Carbonell and Cortés.

Cortés' previous shows include Cibayí, Gypsy Passion, Live and De Amor y Odio (Of Love and Hate). His Mi Soledad premiered May 2005 in Mexico City and has been performed across the globe.
