News Broadway Hit Kinky Boots Is Heading Down Under The Tony Award-winning hit musical Kinky Boots will receive its Australian premiere in October 2016 at Her Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne.

The award-winning musical brings together four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein (book) and Grammy Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Tony Award winner for Best Score).

With direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots is the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score and Best Choreography.

In addition to its current Broadway run, Kinky Boots is currently on a U.S. tour, with a sit-down Toronto production having just recently opened. A London production will begin this fall.

The production also features scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by John Shivers, hair design by Josh Marquette, casting by Stephanie Gorin and Telsey + Company/Justin Huff, CSA, and musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Stephen Oremus.

"People's reactions to Kinky Boots have been amazing from the very beginning. By the end of the show, the audiences are on their feet clapping and dancing and cheering – what more could you possibly ask for?" composer-lyricist Cyndi Lauper said in a statement. "And the show has a ton of heart; it feels like such an honor to be part of something that makes people so happy." Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots, according to press notes, "takes you from a gentlemen’s shoe factory in Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan. Charlie Price is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business of Price & Sons. With the factory’s future hanging in the balance, help arrives in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos."
