Broadway Licensing is launching its own catalog of abbreviated versions of its full-length musicals, created specifically for the elementary and middle school markets.

Titled Junior Varsity, the collection features Emma, Polkadots, and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. This fall, Broadway Licensing will release the JV version of Beat Bugs: The Musical, featuring songs by The Beatles.

Each show in the collection was developed by leading education experts within input from the writers.

The authors have been an integral part of creating the new versions. Douglas Lyons, creator of Polkadots, said “Polkadots was written to empower and celebrate our differences. This new JV version will give young actors ownership of a story that was designed for them.” The author of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Jahnna Beecham, added “Malcolm and I are very excited that The Best Christmas Pageant Ever: The Musical is being included in the new JV collection. JV versions are easier to sing, easier to rehearse, and easier to produce, which is a win for everyone!”
