News Broadway Preview Date Announced for Bennett's History Boys Alan Bennett's Olivier Award-winning The History Boys will begin previews on Broadway April 14, 2006, at a theatre to be announced.

As previously reported, the play — about a British boys' school — will officially open April 23. Nicholas Hytner directs.

The producers will be Bob Boyett and Bill Haber, who were also behind the transfers of Jumpers, Democracy and The Pillowman. The Broadway stop will be part of a tour that will take the show to Australia and two cities in the United Kingdom, Variety reported earlier.

Hytner also directed the piece in London, and producer Boyett told Variety he hopes to bring over the 14-member British cast.

The History Boys, according to production notes, concerns "an unruly bunch of bright, funny sixth-form boys in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university; a maverick English teacher at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher; a headmistress obsessed with results and a history teacher who thinks he's a fool. [The play] is about staff room rivalry, the anarchy of adolescence and the purpose of education."

Alan Bennett's plays include Talking Heads and The Lady in the Van. For more information visit www.ntny.org.
