At 39, Lopez is not only the youngest person to become an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award winner), he also holds the record for taking only ten years to complete the achievement. He joins the ranks of Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, John Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Marvin Hamlisch, Jonathan Tunick, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg and Scott Rudin, all of whom won their awards in competitive categories.
Stage and screen greats Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli and James Earl Jones, who have also completed the EGOT, received one of their awards as a special honor.
Lopez, who co-wrote the score to "Frozen" with his wife, fellow Oscar winner Kristen Anderson-Lopez, has previously won the Daytime Emmy for "The Wonder Pets" (Outstanding Achievement in Musical Direction and Composition), a Grammy for the cast album for The Book of Mormon (Best Musical Theatre Album) and Tony Awards for Avenue Q (Best Original Score) and The Book of Mormon (Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical).
"Frozen" also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 86th annual Academy Awards.
