The lights of Broadway's theatres will dim tonight, Sept. 23, at 8 PM, in memory of actor George C. Scott, who died Sept. 22 in California. Scott, one of the greatest theatre artists of his generation, appeared in many Broadway shows, including Present Laughter, Desire Under the Elms, Death of a Salesman, Comes a Day and Inherit the Wind. [See related Playbill On-Line article on Scott.]
The tradition of dimming the lights is an old one, carried out whenever a theatre luminary passes away.
