According to Deadline.com, "Selma" will open in a limited release Dec. 25 before a wide release Jan. 9, 2015, and is backed by producers Winfrey, Plan B ("12 Years a Slave") and Oscar winner Christian Colson ("127 Hours"). David Oyelowo will play Martin Luther King, Jr., the iconic civil rights leader. The film will track MLK's struggle to secure voting rights for all people and will include the historic march from Selma to Montgomery.
Alongside Oyelowo as MLK and the aforementioned Domingo as Ralph Abernathy are Tom Wilkinson as Johnson, Carmen Ejogo as Coretta Scott King, Andre Holland as Andrew Young, Omar J. Dorsey as James Orange, Alessandro Nivola as John Doar, Dylan Baker as J. Edgar Hoover, Ribisi as Lee White, Tessa Thompson as Diane Nash, Stephen Root as Al Lingo, Jeremy Strong as James Reeb, Tim Roth as George Wallace, and Winfrey as Annie Lee Cooper.
