Australia-based Jackman, who is set to star in the upcoming Broadway musical The Boy From Oz, returns in the role (Wolverine) that won him fame in the States. The Aussie's other theatre creds include Trevor Nunn's staging of Oklahoma! at Britian's National Theatre and award-winning turns in productions of Sunset Boulevard and Beauty and the Beast in his homeland.
McKellen also reprises his role as the villainous Magneto opposite Stewart's virtuous Professor X. The knighted McKellen, recently seen on Broadway in Dance of Death, won a Tony Award for his turn as Salieri in Amadeus. He also appeared in his autobiographical work A Knight Out at the Lyceum Theatre. Stewart recently appeared on Broadway in The Ride Down Mt. Morgan. Other credits include his solo take on A Christmas Carol and as the title character in Washington, D.C.'s race-reversed production of Othello at the Shakespeare Theatre.
Cumming, who won a Tony Award for his performance as the Emcee in the Broadway revival of Cabaret, will join the cast as Nightcrawler. The Scottish thespian also starred in Design for Living and his theatre company Art Party's inaugural production, Elle.
Fellow Scotsman Cox, who recently appeared in "Adaptation" and "The 25th Hour," joins the team as Stryker. Cox has appeared on Broadway in Art and Strange Interlude. He also garnered two Olivier Awards on the London stage in Titus Andronicus and Rat in the Skull.
Other actors who reappear in the cast of "X-Men 2" include Anna Paquin (This Is Our Youth in London, Off-Broadway's The Glory of Living) as Rogue and Bruce Davison (The Elephant Man, The Glass Menagerie) as Senator Kelly. Halle Berry (Storm), Famke Janssen (Jean Grey), James Marsden (Cyclops) and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos (Mystique) reprise their roles as well.
