Creel will present an evening of original acoustic pop, with songs drawn from his debut pop album "GOODTIMENATION," as well as new songs and some classic covers. He will be joined by co-writer Robbie Roth and fellow Hair cast member Steel Burkhardt. The performance will begin at 11:30 PM.
Creel, who was previously seen in the West End when he took over the role of Bert in the original stage production of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre, has been twice nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, for his performances in Hair in 2009 and Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2002. He has also appeared on Broadway in the 2004 revival of La Cage aux Folles, where he played Georges' biological son Jean-Michel. He has also been seen in Stephen Sondheim's Bounce Off-Broadway as well as the American premeire of Honk! He has previously presented acoustic concerts at New York's Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space and the Public Theatre's Joe's Pub.
He created "GOODTIMENATION" with his co-writer Robbie Roth. In a departure from his musical theatre career, Creel took the opportunity to write and record 13 original feel-good, fun-infused, pop jams. In a press statement, he has commented, "When I was a kid I liked to listen to albums from start to finish. Since I’m a fan of all different kinds of sounds and styles, I wanted to make a record that takes people on a varied musical journey." In GOODTIMENATION, he mixes his musical theatre roots with a pop sensibility, and marks a personal journey for Creel, as he recounts moments of break-up, confession, and bold New York City adventure.
As an involved activist, he also founded BroadwayImpact, an organization dedicated to fighting for marriage equality in New York, which is described as a "community of actors, directors, stage managers, fans, producers — pretty much anyone who has ever seen, been in or worked on a Broadway show — united by the simple belief that anyone who wants to should be able to get married."
