Broadway News Broadway's Girl From the North Country Closes January 23 With Plans to Return

Following the Broadway shutdown, the acclaimed Bob Dylan jukebox musical reopened on Broadway October 13, 2021.

The acclaimed musical Girl From the North Country plays its final performance at Broadway's Belasco Theatre January 23. Upon closing, the new musical will have played 31 previews and 117 regular performances. 

Girl From the North Country originally opened March 5, 2020, but closed just a week later due to New York’s COVID restrictions. The production reopened October 13, 2021. The production is currently in advanced conversations with the Shubert Organization to open again in the spring.

Featuring a book by director Conor McPherson and music from Bob Dylan's catalog, the musical offers a slice-of-life look at a small community in Duluth, Minnesota, where the Laine family operates a rundown guesthouse.

The cast features Todd Almond, Colin Bates, Jeannette Bayardelle, Jennifer Blood, Alex Joseph Grayson, Matthew Frederick Harris, Caitlin Houlahan, Robert Joy, Tony nominee Marc Kudisch, Luba Mason, Ben Mayne, Matt McGrath, Tom Nelis, Jay O. Sanders, John Schiappa, Austin Scott, Housso Semon, Kimber Elayne Sprawl, Edward Staudenmayer, Rachel Stern, Anastasia Talley, Chiara Trentalange, Bob Walton, Aidan Wharton, Chelsea Lee Williams, and Tony nominee and two-time Emmy winner Mare Winningham.

Girl From the North Country features scenic and costume design by Rae Smith; orchestrations, arrangements, and music supervision by Simon Hale, with additional arrangements by Hale and McPherson; lighting design by Mark Henderson; sound design by Simon Baker; movement direction by Lucy Hind; and music direction by Marco Paguia.

The musical, which originated at The Old Vic in London, has also played in the West End and Toronto, at New York's Public Theater and is currently playing in Sydney, Australia.
