The production will play its final performance at the Atkinson Jan. 9, 2011. It will reopen at the Helen Hayes Theatre, currently the home of the limited engagement of Colin Quinn: Long Story Short, in March 2011.

Producers said that running costs at the Hayes would be significantly less than at the Atkinson.

Matthew Weaver, one of the lead producers of Rock of Ages, told the New York Times, "On a macro level, we think this move allows us to run on Broadway for another two years, if not longer, and should allow us to stay open in time for the Rock of Ages movie to open in 2012. It will be a big help to the movie if the musical is still running on Broadway, and vice versa."

Rock of Ages is written by Chris D'Arienzo, directed by Kristin Hanggi and choreographed by Kelly Devine.
