News Broadway's Rowat, Klausner, Gillette Sing New Opera 1 Plum Sq. on WNYC Feb. 18 1 Plum Sq., a new American opera featuring Broadway talent, will be heard in its world broadcast premiere on WNYC radio Feb. 18.

WNYC's "Spinning On Air," produced and hosted by David Garland, will present the world broadcast premiere of the opera by Amy Kohn 9-11 PM (ET) Feb. 18, on WNYC 93.9 FM and via live webstream at www.wnyc.org. The 80-minute music-theatre piece for four voices and instrumental ensemble "tackles the theme of construction versus destruction in architecture, in creativity, in relationships and in the mind," according to the announcement. Composer-lyricist Kohn describes the music of 1 Plum Sq. as "rhythmic, post-minimalist, baroque and jazz influenced."

The cast includes Graham Rowat (Broadway's Dracula and Beauty and the Beast), Terri Klausner (Vineyard's Bed and Sofa, Harold Prince's Evita), Eric Michael Gillette (Broadway's Kiss Me, Kate and The Frogs), Melissa Fathman (Anthony Braxton's "Trillium R.," Polygraph Lounge).

Lisa Rothe directs. Steve Marzullo (Mamma Mia!, Floyd Collins) is music director.
