The Tennessee Williams play, a co-production with Hartford Stage, will run at the New Jersey Theatre Jan. 10-Feb. 11, 2007. Plummer, who starred as Alma Winemiller in the September Hartford run, had previously announced she would be unavailable for the Paper Mill engagement due to a prior acting commitment. That conflict, according to Variety, is no longer an issue.

At the Paper Mill, Plummer will co-star opposite the Dr. John Buchanan of Kevin Anderson. Marc Kudisch, who starred in the Hartford run, will instead join Kristin Chenoweth for the Broadway revival of The Apple Tree.

Michael Wilson, who directed the Williams play in Connecticut, will helm the New Jersey production as well.

In Summer and Smoke, "Alma Winemiller, an uptight minister's daughter," production notes state, "secretly pines for the boy next door. Unfortunately, the boy next door is a young doctor whose shocking lifestyle has caused a scandal throughout Glorious Hill, Mississippi. Will Alma's frigid reserve melt in the smoke and heat of her newly awakened desire?"

Amanda Plummer won the Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Theater World awards for her performance in Agnes of God. She also received Tony nominations for her performances in A Taste of Honey and Pygmalion. Also an Emmy Award winner, Plummer’s screen credits include "The World According to Garp," "Daniel," "Pulp Fiction" and "The Fisher King."

Kevin Anderson received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for his performance in the revival of Death of a Salesman as well as a Theatre World Award for his work in Orphans. He has also appeared on Broadway in Brooklyn, Orpheus Descending and Off-Broadway in Red Address and Speaking in Tongues. On the London stage he created the role of Joe Gillis in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard.
