News Brooks Ashmanskas, Andréa Burns and Jessica Molaskey Are Among The Drama Department in Upcoming Reading The Hangar Theatre’s Pilot Reading Series in NYC will continue with a reading of The Drama Department, a new play by Mary Poppins actor James Hindman, Jan. 30 at The Black Box Theatre on Theatre Row.

Directed by Hangar artistic director Peter Flynn, the free 7:30 PM reading will feature Tony nominee Brooks Ashmanskas (The Ritz; Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me; Promises, Promises), Andréa Burns (In The Heights, The Full Monty, Songs For A New World), Jessica Molaskey (Sunday in the Park with George, Parade, The Who’s Tommy, Les Misérables), Tyrone Mitchell Henderson, Don Burroughs, Clare Mahoney and Nick Piacente. In The Drama Department, according to Hangar, “a mid-west high school takes great pride in its Debate & Dramatics teacher until the son of the school board president isn't cast as the lead in the school musical. Slowly and insidiously, rumors are spread to create dissent and scandal as we watch loyal friends, students, and teachers turn against him in this sharp and gripping comedy of suspicion and personal integrity.”

The Hangar Pilot Reading Series, held every month in Manhattan, offers new and established playwrights a chance to work on their new plays with Hangar alumni, directors and actors. Notable artists who have participated in the series include Kristoffer Diaz (Pulitzer finalist, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity), director and Hangar alum Lisa Peterson and Rebecca Naomi Jones (Passing Strange, American Idiot).

The Black Box Theatre on Theatre Row is located at 410 West 42nd Street (between 9th and 10th Avenues). For more information and to make a reservation, email [email protected] or visit www.hangartheatre.org.
