Bruce W. Mitchell, a member of the board of the Roundabout Theatre Company and A.R.T./New York (Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York), died at his New York City home on Sept. 10. He was 63 and the cause was lung cancer.
Mr. Mitchell graduated from Stanford University in 1962 and joined the BankAmerican Corporation in 1963 as community relations officer. He eventually worked his way up to the position of Group Executive Vice President. He retired in 1999.
As a board member for the Broadway nonprofit, the Roundabout Theatre Company, he headed the operating committee. He also served on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Opera Association, and The Beaver Creek Arts Foundation in Beaver Creek, CO, where he had a home.
Mr. Mitchell's love of the theatre was apparently handed down: All three of his children, Sean Mitchell, George Mitchell and Jennifer Johnson, are actors.
In addition to the children, he is survived by his wife, Carol, and three sisters. Marilyn Mitchell, Judy Rediehs and Margery Curtis. A memorial service was held Sept. 15 at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to A.R.T./New York, 575 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10018.
