News Buddha – A Fantastic Journey, Helmed by John C. Reilly, Sets New Start Date The West Coast premiere of Evan Brenner's one-man play Buddha – A Fantastic Journey has delayed the start of performances until Feb. 9.

Tony and Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly directs the 90-minute play, compiled from the Buddha's own words, which premiered in Boston in 2009. It was originally set to begin Feb. 3, but an emergency in the family of actor-playwright Brenner resulted in a shift in production dates.

Buddha – A Fantastic Journey will now officially open Feb. 10 for a newly extended run through March 4.

The production has original live score by Sheela Bringi and Jaeger Smith, with set and lighting design by François-Pierre Couture.

Here's how it's billed: "The man we know as the Buddha lived in Northern India around 500BC and introduced the teaching known as Buddhism. After his death, an extensive oral history of the movement was written down and carried throughout Asia, becoming the taproot for all Buddhist traditions. Framed in a most unusual and personal context, writer/performer Evan Brenner brings selections from these texts to the stage, unchanged, to enact the extraordinary life of the man from start to finish. It's an epic story of personal struggle, supreme enlightenment and horrific tragedy."

Brenner has appeared in the films "The Deep and Dreamless Sleep," "Two Boneheads," "West Side Evan," "Spare Me" and "Waking up Crazy." Reilly most recently appeared in "Carnage," the screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning hit God of Carnage. He earned an Academy Award nomination for "Chicago." He also appeared in True West and A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway.
