The production will be an enhanced version of the current U.K. touring show. Contracts have yet to be signed, but it is likely that the London run will feature Dean Elliott and Matthew Wycliffe, who share the title role in the touring version.

Buddy, which premiered at London's Victoria Palace in 1989, was one of the first back catalogue shows and spawned many imitators.

Co-written by Alan Janes and Rob Bettinson, the show follows Holly's career during the three years in which he became the world's top recording artist with such hits as "Peggy Sue," "That'll Be the Day," "Oh Boy" and "Raining in My Heart."

The musical climaxes with a re-creation of Holly's final concert at Iowa's Surf Ballroon featuring Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Holly died in a plane crash at age 22.

This latest return to London marks the third time the show has set up residence in the West End. Since its premiere the musical has been seen by more than 20 million people in over 16,000 performances worldwide.
