News Burstyn, Blake and Zanotto Join Jerusalem Syndrome Cast The York Theatre Company's Developmental Reading Series will continue Oct. 22 with a free reading of the new musical comedy The Jerusalem Syndrome.

Directed by Annette Jolles, the 7:30 PM reading at the York Theatre will feature the talents of the previously announced Liz Larsen, Stuart Zagnit, Robert H. Fowler, Danny Binstock, J.D. Webster, Gayle Turner, Staci Rudnitsky, Vanessa Lemonides, Ron DeStefano and Felicia Ricci. Newcomers to the reading include Barnum's Mike Burstyn, Legally Blonde's Richard H. Blake and A Chorus Line's Deone Zanotto.

Rick Hip-Flores will serve as musical director.

The Jerusalem Syndrome features music by Kyle Rosen with book and lyrics by Kleban Award winners Laurence Holzman and Felicia Needleman. The musical, according to press notes, "is based on a real-life psychological malady that affects about 200 tourists a year who arrive in the Holy City and suddenly come to believe that they are biblical figures. With proper medical treatment, many of these people, who have no history of psychological problems, snap out of their delusion within a week, and return to their everyday lives.

"The musical follows an ensemble of characters whose lives intertwine when they journey to Israel and experience the syndrome. Zaniness ensues as Moses leads Noah, Abraham, John the Baptist and not one, but two Virgin Marys on an exodus from the psych ward while Jesus roams the Holy City working his own kind of miracles."

The York Theatre Company is located in Manhattan at 54th Street just east of Lexington Avenue. Reservations for the free reading may be made by emailing [email protected] or by calling (212) 935-5824, ext. 24. For more information visit www.yorktheatre.org.
