Producers for the aborning musical My Cuba are still in the process of choosing a writer and composer for the project, which they hope will begin its first workshops a year from now. Kevin Costner will star in the piece, which he’s co-producing with Anita Waxman and Elizabeth Williams.

As first reported in August 1999, Costner approached Waxman with the idea. Titled My Cuba, the piece tells "of a love triangle,” Waxman told Playbill On-Line (April 13), “taking place at the time of the Castro revolution. Based on a true story, it’s about a Cuban revolutionary and an American couple who come to Cuba.”

Waxman said she expects the creative team to be chosen within the next few weeks. “We want people who know authentic Cuban music of that era.”

Costner's film credits as an actor include "Revenge," "Field of Dreams," "For Love of the Game" and "Tin Cup." He also directed and starred in the Oscar-winning "Dances With Wolves." Waxman's producing credits include Cabaret, 1776, Electra and The Young Man From Atlanta on Broadway, and A Night in November and Mrs. Klein Off- Broadway.
