The cast of the Broadway musical Titanic is planning an Oscar/First Anniversary party Mar. 23 in New York in order to "send good karma out West to Hollywood" to the film Titanic, which is up for Best Picture. Production spokesperson Susanne Tighe said the cast and crew of the Tony-winning musical has booked the Manhattan restaurant Laura Belle (scene of their Tony-win party) where they will install a large-screen TV to watch the annual Oscarcast. The musical is coming up on its first anniversary in April.
The musical and film both deal with the sinking of the luxury liner, and thus have some characters in common, but are otherwise unrelated.
The musical's composer, Maury Yeston, is scheduled to be a guest on PBS' "Jim Lehrer Newshour" the same evening. Check local listings for broadcast time.
