ABC has announced that the current season of the TV comedy series "Ugly Betty" will be its last. The show, which shoots in New York City, has provided many a guest spot for theatre stars.
"We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion," reads a statement from ABC and producers. "We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."
The series had been shuffled from its Thursday timeslot to Fridays last fall, then again recently to Wednesdays.
Currently in its fourth season, "Ugly Betty" stars America Ferrara (Dog Sees God…) with stage veterans Vanessa Williams (Into the Woods, Kiss of the Spider Woman), Michael Urie (The Temperamentals) and Becki Newton (Girl Crazy), Daniel Eric Gold (Small Tragedy ) and Judith Light (Wit).
Guest stars seen on the series include Bernadette Peters, Faith Prince, Cheyenne Jackson, Aaron Lazar, Christine Baranski, Rob Bartlett, Dylan Baker, Barry Bostwick, Kate Reinders, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Kristen Johnston, among others. (Brian Stokes Mitchell has been announced to guest star on this season.)
