Triple Drama-Logue winner Camilla Carr heads up the world premiere of Beth Henley's newest one act, Sisters of the Winter Madrigal, July 12-Aug. 19 at Los Angeles Theatre Center. The short play will be partnered with Frederick Bailey's farce, Dirty Ugly People and Their Stupid Meaningless Lives.
Carr has appeared at LATC opposite David Morse in The Wild Duck, David Selby in Night of the Iguana, Phillip Baker Hall in The Inspector General and in The Stick Wife. She will play Mardian, Social Messenger to the High Lord with Tim Woodward (As You Like It) as the High Lord and the Poor Jerk and Jenny Gabrielle and Naomi Chan as the sisters in the title.
Also in the cast are Cris D'Annunzio, Kris Kamm, Darrell Kunitomi, Megahn Perry, Valeri Ross and Rudy Young. D'Annunzio recently appeared in Honkies With Attitude, directed by The Bridgehead vet Kunitomi.
Leading the Dirty Ugly People are Perry ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") as show business wannabe Cassandra and Ross as her manager Vicky.
Sisters is a medieval tale, pitting two unloved orphans against a society that will not accept them. One girl uses love to light the darkness she finds herself surrounded by while the other fights back with ambition and greed. A Pulitzer Prize winner and Oscar nominee, Henley's works include The Miss Firecracker Contest, Impossible Marriage and Family Week. Crimes of the Heart celebrated its 20th year anniversary in 2001 with a New York revival at Second Stage. Dirty Ugly People pictures a farcical future in 2020, where there's no food or water, but desperate people still struggle to realize their simple, damaged hopes. Bailey wrote the Vietnam drama The Bridgehead before turning to screenwriting, where he has written for low budget film deities Roger Corman and Charles Fries.
Designing the both plays are L.A. Drama Critics Lifetime Achievement Award winner Victoria Profitt (sets) and Sean Murray (sound and original music).
