Classic Arts News Career Transition for Dancers Gala to Honor Joffrey Ballet The annual Career Transition for Dancers gala in October will honor the Joffrey Ballet, the Harkness Foundation for Dance, and Lewis S. Ranieri, the chairman of American Ballet Theatre.

The Joffrey and its artistic director, Gerald Arpino, will receive CTD's Rolex Dance Award in honor of the company's 50th anniversary. The Harkness Foundation and Ranieri will both be presented with the Career Transition for Dancers' Award for Outstanding Contributions to the World of Dance.

The gala, on October 24 at City Center, supports the organization's efforts to helps former dancers establish new careers. Titled "That's Entertainment," it will be produced and directed by Ann Marie DeAngelo. Performers will include dancers from American Ballet Theatre, the Joffrey, and Mathre Graham Dance Company, as well as Sandy Duncan, Ben Vareen, Bill Irwin, and others.

Gala tickets, which include post-performance dinner and dancing, are $550 and $1,000; call (212) 764-0172 for more information. Tickets for the performance will go on sale on August 29.
