Directed by Richard Israel, the Sondheim-John Weidman musical will begin performances at the El Centro Theatre in Hollywood, CA, July 8 with an official opening scheduled for July 11. The limited engagement will play through Aug. 13.

Assassins, according to the West Coast Ensemble, is "a musical exploration of nine individuals who assassinated or attempted to assassinate the President of the United States. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, this controversial and ultimately American musical takes us on a roller coaster ride in which one man's American dream becomes a nation's nightmare."

In a statement West Coast Ensemble artistic director Les Hanson said, "We are thrilled to be bringing this timely and thought-provoking musical to our new space in Hollywood. Assassins is a musical that raises more questions than it answers, and I am excited at the opportunity to present this disturbingly brilliant piece in our intimate space."

The creative team will also feature musical direction by Johanna Kent, set design by Stephen Gifford, lighting design by Lisa D. Katz, costume design by A. Jeffrey Schoenberg and sound design by Cricket S. Myers. The play is produced for WCE by Flip Laffoon and Michelle Exarhos. Assassins features a score by Stephen Sondheim and a book by John Weidman.
