The inimitable Carol Burnett appeared on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in honor of her new show, A Little Help With Carol Burnett, now streaming on Netflix.
The Tony recipient and two-time Tony nominee told Cohen about the most terrified she’s ever been onstage. “When we did a concert version of Stephen Sondheim's Follies, he first called me he said I'd like you to sing ‘I'm Still Here.’ It's a tough song,” she said. “I thought we were going to be in a studio recording the song and I'd have the lyrics right there. It wasn't until I flew back to New York and I’m having lunch with my dear friend Beverly Sills and she says, ‘Oh we’re going to come see you in that concert,’ and I said, ’What concert?’
“If you ever see it, you will see the most frightened human being in the world.”
Burnett’s illustrious career of course includes 11 seasons of The Carol Burnett Show, which celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special this past winter.
The actor and comedian also told the story of the time she “kissed” Julie Andrews and played a round of “Has Carol Met Them,” in which she shared stories of the famous television stars, political figures, music icons, and more she's met over the years.
