News Carol Channing's 95th Birthday Celebrated Tonight Starry tribute includes Alan Cumming, Lily Tomlin and more.

The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, CA, celebrates the 95th birthday of Tony winner Carol Channing March 5 at 8 PM with an evening titled Carol Channing's 95th Birthday: In Celebration of a Broadway Legend. Channing turned 95 January 31.

The sold-out, one-night-only tribute concert features the talents of Lucie Arnaz, Laura Bell Bundy, Carole Cook, Alan Cumming, Eden Espinosa, Florence Henderson, Gavin MacLeod, Anika Noni Rose, Lily Tomlin and Tom Wopat. Channing is scheduled to attend.

The evening will include live performances and taped tributes from an array of show-business luminaries, as well as video clips of many of Channing’s career milestones.

In Celebration of the Broadway Legend is produced by Chad Hilligus, with musical direction by Steven Baker and choreography by Charlie Williams. The artists will be backed by a 28-piece orchestra.

A recipient of the 1995 Lifetime Achievement Tony Award, Channing received her first Theatre World Award for her performance in 1948's Lend An Ear. She was spotted in that production by author Anita Loos and cast in the 1949 musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes as Lorelei Lee. She came to national prominence as the star of Hello, Dolly!, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Channing is a longtime advocate for arts education and has been honored by the California state legislature for her work to engage the public about the importance of the arts in education.
