News Caroline O’Connor Vehicle Bombshells to Drive to West End As every year, the West End is braced for a batch of shows making the journey south from the Edinburgh International and Fringe Festivals, and one of the first to be confirmed is Bombshells, by Joanna Murray-Smith. It stars, and was written for, Caroline O’Connor.

The award-winning show, which finishes its Edinburgh run at the Assembly Rooms on Aug. 30, calls on its star to play various characters as she performs a series of monologues. It bagged a prestigious Edinburgh award, and is set to open in the West End Sept. 6, though no venue has yet been announced. English-born actress O’Connor grew up in Australia, and gave early performances there in Oklahoma! and West Side Story. She was nominated for an Olivier Award in 1996 for Mack and Mabel in London. Other successes have included Me and My Girl in London, Chicago in Australia and New York, and a movie turn in Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge." Another film musical followed, with a part alongside Kevin Kline in the Cole Porter biopic “De-Lovely.”

Simon Phillips directs Bombshells. The show runs 80 minutes.
