La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts will present the Broadway musical Once on This Island June 6-22 in La Mirada, CA.

Once on this Island, book by Lynn Ahrens and lyrics by Stephen Flaherty (the Ragtime team), is the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who learns the power of love from a village story during a threatening storm.

The villagers dance and sing the story of a peasant girl who is saved during a storm and given healing powers by the gods. She uses her power to save a young aristocrat, Daniel, with whom she falls in love. She believes their love is strong enough to triumph over prejudice and class distinction keeping them apart. In the end, her gods must intervene.

The cast includes Tonya L. Dixon (Ti Moune), Fitz Houston (Tonton Julian), Ron Kellum (Armand), Shawana Kemp (Asaka), Rachel Luttrell (Erzulie), Ashley Perry (little Ti Moune), Seth Sharp (Daniel), Deborah Sharpe (Mama Euralie), Marvin Thornton (Agwa), Rosalie Vega (Andrea) and Harrison White (Papa Ge).
