SOLANA BEACH, CA -- Make way for The Elephant Man, which returns Sept. 26 in a production at North Coast Repertory Theatre, starring Sean Robert Cox, making his NCRT debut. Frederick Treaves is played by NCRT veteran, Dan Gruber.
Written by Bernard Pomerance and directed by Sean Murray, the play tells the story of John Merrick, a young circus freak suffering from an unknown disease that swells his head and body with tumors like brownish cauliflower. He is rescued from sideshow-exploitation by Treaves, a London surgeon who gives him safe harbor in a hospital.
Elephant Man won eight major awards when it was first produced in New York.
Through Nov. 1 at NCRT, located in the Lomas Santa Fe Plaza. Call (888) 776-NCRT or visit web page www.northcoastrep.org.
