As Is, the first Broadway show to deal with AIDS as it was happening in New York, "is the story of Rich and Saul, a gay couple going through a divorce," according to press notes. "As they discuss this difficult situation Rich has one more difficult announcement that he has AIDS. They need each other and talk about the old days, how did this happen and what does the future hold with this devastating disease that has come upon everyone. This play is a heartwarming story of love and compassion and what is was like to deal with the AIDS epidemic in 1985 in New York."
