Ike Schambelan will direct the Off-Broadway run of the 80-minute work that officially opens April 26 and continues through May 17.
In A Nervous Smile, press notes state, "the wealthy parents of a girl severely disabled with cerebral palsy are strained to the breaking point by the burden of caring for their daughter. With a friend whose son also has CP, they decide to leave the burden of their children and fly off to South America and Europe."
The cast includes Melanie Boland, Pamela Sabaugh, Marilee Talkington and Nicholas Viselli. Bert Scott has designed set and lighting for the production.
Belluso, who suffered from a bone disease that left him wheelchair bound, authored plays that dealt with the issues and lives of disabled people. His final play, The Poor Itch, was presented as part of the Public LAB series last spring. A Nervous Smile originally premiered as part of the Humana Festival in Louisville in 2005.
