International News Cast Complete for London Debut of Afterglow The play examines the emotional, intellectual, and sexual dynamics between a gay married couple in an open relationship.

Casting is complete for the upcoming London premiere of S. Asher Gelman’s Off-Broadway hit play Afterglow, which explores the complex dynamics of a gay married couple in an open relationship.

As previously announced, the seven-week limited engagement will begin June 5 ahead of a June 11 opening night at the Southwark Playhouse. Tom O’Brien will direct. Performances are currently scheduled through July 20.

The cast will feature Jesse Fox (Hard Feelings, Finborough) as Darius, Sean Hart (Coriolanus, Titus Andronicus, RSC) as Josh, and Danny Mahoney (White Fang, Park Theatre) as Alex.

Afterglow centers on gay, married couple Josh and Alex, who are in an open relationship and invite a third, Darius, to share their bed for a night. The dynamics of the relationship begin to shift as feelings arise, and each must examine his own definitions of love, intimacy, and commitment.

The upcoming production will also have set and costume design by Libby Todd, lighting design by David Howe, sound design by David Gregory, and movement direction by Lee Crowley. The casting director is Anne Vosser with general management by David Adkin Limited.

Afterglow premiered Off-Broadway June 12, 2017, at The Loft at The Davenport Theatre. Gelman also directed the New York production, which generated buzz for its unapologetic portrayal of sex and intimacy onstage. The production was extended multiple times, concluding its run August 12, 2018.

Afterglow is produced in London by Adam Roebuck, Aaron Quintana, and Justin Coffman.
