Casting is now complete for The Muny's regional premiere production of Beautiful—The Carole King Musical, which will play the outdoor St. Louis venue June 12–18.
Joining the previously announced Sara Sheperd as Carole King, Jarrod Spector as Barry Mann, Jackie Burns as Cynthia Weil, Steven Good as Gerry Goffin, Noah Weisberg as Don Kirshner, and Sharon Hunter as Genie Klein will be Corey Barrow, John Battagliese, Jett Blackorby, Kelly Liz Bolick, Shawn Bowers, Tavis Kordell Cunningham, Anna Gassett, Talya Groves, Alia Hodge, Kennedy Holmes, Sage Lee, Sandie Lee, Spencer Davis Milford, Tavia Riveé, Mike Schwitter, and Byron St. Cyr. The company will also be joined by the Muny Teen youth ensemble.
Beautiful–The Carole King Musical opened on Broadway at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre January 12, 2014. It played 2,418 regular performances and closed October 27, 2019. The show features a book by Tony and Oscar nominee Douglas McGrath with direction by Marc Bruni and choreography by Josh Prince. The score features popular songs written by King, Goffin, Weil, and Mann.
The bio-musical follows King’s rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history.
The upcoming production will also have scenic design by Ryan Douglass, costume design by Tracy Christensen, lighting design by Rob Denton, sound design by John Shivers and David Patridge, video design by Kylee Loera, wig design by J. Jared Janas, with production stage management by Nancy Uffner.
