The work, which was to be directed by the late two-time Tony Award winner Gerald Gutierrez (The Heiress, A Delicate Balance), will be staged by Doug Hughes. The run is set to play through May 16 with a possible extension to May 23.

Engaged will star Danielle Ferland, Maggie Lacey, John Horton, David Don Miller and Sloane Shelton — who were cast by Gutierrez before his passing. They are joined by Nicole Lowrance, Caitlin Muelder, James Gale, Jeremy Shamos and John Christopher Jones.

The design team (also assembled by Gutierrez) include John Lee Beatty (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes), Rui Rita (lighting) and Guy Sherman (sound).

Engaged was penned in 1877 by half of the famous Gilbert and Sullivan team. The satire involves three young couples who deal with train wrecks, mistaken identities, con artists and marriage proposals in their search of money and matrimony.

Hughes recently directed the well-received staging of The Beard of Avon Off Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop. He also staged the current MCC Theatre production Frozen. Hughes was artistic director of the Long Wharf Theatre from 1997 to 2001. The play will end the TFANA 25th season which included The Last Letter adapted and directed by Frederick Wiseman and Shakespeare's Pericles directed by Bartlett Sher.
