Bill Hanney’s Theatre By The Sea has announced casting for its upcoming production of Mel Brooks’ The Producers, which will run August 16–September 10 at the Wakefield, Rhode Island, venue.

Directed and choreographed by original Broadway cast member Brad Musgrove, the company will be headed by Joel Briel (Cats) as the scheming producer Max Bialystock and Richard Lafleur as accountant-turned-producer, Leo Bloom. They will be joined by Brent Bateman (Franz Liebkind), Sabrina Harper (Ulla), Liam Johnson (Carmen Ghia), and Stuart Marland (Roger DeBris).

The ensemble includes Karmen Blessing, Ashley Cain, Marie Eife, Hannah Fairman, Julia Feeley, Tasha Heggem, Jeffrey Johnson II, Ryan Koerber, Amy Laviolette, Jimmy Lewis, Keeley McCormick, Matthew Pashley Roland, Tony Pracek, Michael Perrie, Jr., Emma Pittman, and Andrew Tighe.

Based on the hit 1968 film of the same name, the Mel Brooks-Thomas Meehan musical chronicles the adventures of washed-up Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his mild-mannered accountant Leo Bloom, as they scheme to get rich quick by producing the most notorious flop in the history of showbiz. The score includes “I Wanna Be A Producer,” “When You Got It, Flaunt It,” “Springtime for Hitler,” and “Prisoners of Love.”

The production will also have music direction by Matthew Stephens, scenic design by Kyle Dixon, original costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Jose Santiago, sound design by Danny Erdberg, and wig and hair design by Michael Dates. Kate L. Ferdinandi is the production stage manager, and Sara Sheets is the assistant stage manager.

The Producers is produced for Theatre By The Sea by Bill Hanney (owner/producer), Kevin P. Hill (producing artistic director), and Thom Warren (associate producer).
