The world premiere of Julia Rae Maldonado's Muses is presented May 11-June 3 at Theatre East’s newly acquired The Court Square Theater (formerly Astoria Performing Arts Center) in Queens, New York.

Helmed by Theatre East Artistic Director Judson Jones, the cast includes Lauren Pisano as Emily, Thammie Quach as Grace, Joseph Dean Anderson as Sam, and Lauren Sowa as Kate.

The play follows Emily, a New York painter who discovers her husband has been in a relationship with 15-year-old Grace when she shows up at Emily's studio wanting to sit for a painting. The two unearth cataclysmic revelations that ignite the world around them.

“I am delighted to be presenting Muses, our first show at the newly minted Court Square Theater, next month. The play speaks to the mission of our theatre company, by stirring the human side of current issues by fostering new plays of social relevance,” said Artistic Director Jones in an earlier statement.

The production also has scenic and lighting design by Zach Murphy, sound design by Margeret Montagna, and costume design by Sherry Martinez. John Noel is the production manager, Corin Greene is the production stage manager, and Christa Kimlicko Jones is the assistant director.

The play was developed in Theatre East’s Writing Room, where playwrights and theatre professionals collaborate and offer insights and suggestions.
