Casting has been announced for the world premiere of Rachel Bonds’ At the Old Place, which will begin performances at the La Jolla Playhouse July 5.

Directed by Playhouse Associate Artistic Director Jaime Castañeda, the limited engagement will continue in the Mandell Weiss Forum through July 31.

The cast features Heidi Armbruster (Time Stands Still) as Angie, Brenna Coates (The Wolves) as Jolene, Benim Foster (Barefoot in the Park) as Harrison, and Marcel Spears (Picasso at the Lapin Agile) as Will.

“Rachel Bonds is an actor’s playwright; she creates complex characters with hidden depths and nuances, tailor made for actors to inhabit and explore,” said Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley in a statement. “Our own Jaime Castañeda has assembled an extraordinary cast and creative team—many of whom have designed numerous productions at the Playhouse—to launch the world premiere of her probing and poetic play.”

In the new play, a literature professor in her mid-40s and facing a breaking point returns to her childhood home in Virginia only to discover two young people camped out on her lawn struggling with their own life crises.

The production will feature scenic design by Lauren Helpern, costume design by David Israel Reynoso, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu, sound design by Melanie Chen, and dramaturgy by Gabriel Greene. The stage manager is Katrina Herrmann.
